Amidst the lush greenery of the Sahyadri mountain range, Thoseghar Waterfall is an enchanting natural wonder. The waterfall location is near the small village of Thoseghar, ijust 20 kilometres from Satara city in Maharashtra. Best time to visit is during the monsoon season. This waterfall is formed by the Tarali River and is situated in the Konkan region in Western ghats of India and is surrounded by dense forest and hills.

It is located at an altitude of around 1,500 feet above sea level. You will find different types of greenery beside the water falls with moving regular water tide. In the monsoon when the drop from the fall touches your face it will give you some different kind dreamy experience.

The Magnificent Waterfall

Thoseghar Falls is a series of cascades, with some reaching heights of 15 to 20 meters, while the tallest drop of water is from 200 meters.  Whether you’re a nature enthusiast, a birdwatcher, or simply seeking a time-out from city life, Thoseghar won’t disappoint.

In order to avoid overcrowding, authorities have put a time limit of visitation of 2 to 3 hours for each person.

  1. Chota Dhabdhaba (small waterfall) – 15-20m
  2. Mota Dhabdhaba (big waterfall) – 200m
  3. waterfall height: -15m to 20m

The monsoon season, from July to November, is when Thoseghar truly comes to its best personality. Heavy rainfall during this period ensures that the falls are at their most spectacular. August to October is the sweet spot, offering the perfect balance between rainfall and accessibility.

  • Both public & private transport available for reaching at this waterfall. 
  • It is Located at the distance of 77 km from Mahabaleshwar.
  • Thoseghar distance from Pune is 140 km.
  • Thoseghar is 290 km from the Maharashtra.
  • Regular bus services are available from Pune to Satara waterfall also. 
  • Satara waterfall distance is approximately 25 km from the actual city. The journey typically takes around 45 minutes to an hour by car, depending on the traffic and road conditions.
  • Rikshaws and bus are also available from Satara city to thoseghar falls.
  • Thoseghar has a designated parking area for visitors. Although parking is allowed at chalkewadi.
  • It takes nearly 0.5 km from the parking area to reach to thoseghar. 
  • Local cabs are also available there and you can also hire a taxi. 
  • Cost of bus might range from INR 200 TO INR 800 (depending on bus operator types).
  • Parking charges for 4-wheeler: -INR 30 and for 2-wheeler: – free.

By Road

  • From Mumbai it will take approximately 280 kilometres and the drive take around 5.5 to 6 hours. While from Pune it takes About 135 kilometers, and the journey is for it’s a 3.5 to 4-hour. Regular buses are also available that connect Satara to both cities which makes it more convenient for travellers.
  • The nearest railway station to Thoseghar is Satara Railway Station. Satara Railway Station is approximately 30 kilometers away from Thoseghar.

Public Transport

  • Buses from Swargate (Pune to Satara) and local rickshaws from Satara will take you to Thoseghar. For a full view of the falls, you can head to Chalkewadi and walk down the paved road for about 0.5 kilometers.

  • Almost 15 km from Thoseghar falls “kaas pathar” or “kaas plateau” is situated. This kaas plateau thoseghar is also known as valley of flowers.
  • Kaas plateau abounds in beautiful flora.
  • The sajjanged fort will be viewed as you go on the route of thoseghar from Pune.
  •  It is also known for the resting place of saint Ramdas and is visited by many devotees.
  • Chalkewadi famous windmill farms is also located in Satra which is one of the Asia largest windmill farms.
  • There are viewing platforms and paths that provide different vantage points to appreciate the natural beauty of the waterfalls.

  • There is map at the entrance, which shows all-different types of routes under the water fall.
  • All the paths are covered by railing for safety purpose and it should not be climbed by visitors, as the rules convey.
  • You can visitor with your family and friends for it is the perfect picnic spot and picnic areas are also present there at hand.
  • You will find some restaurant and local shop for breakfast and snacks, nearby only.
  • If you’re visiting in monsoon, be very careful because it gets slippery. Wear sturdy shoes. 
  • If you’re hike-obsessed person, you can also reach here by hiking for about 15 to 20 min.
